One of Us

January 24, 2012 by

So, I’m fine with working in a small group; really, I am. Just like I’m fine with group members being busy and having lives. But I need cleaners now, and apparently I only have one who’s alive. As such:

Recruitment Post!

You know the drill: take the test on our FAQ page (download two images and clean them of all Japanese text, including sound effects. Redraw to the best of your ability) and email it to us at mahouxscans@gmail.com. You’ll get a response (eventually; don’t expect next-day service unless you’re really lucky) saying whether you passed or not, and also stating any fixes you could make.

Keep in mind that this is a test; I will not be holding anyone’s hand through Photoshop 101. Why? Put quite simply, I suck at Photoshop. I can point out areas that will be hard to cover for the letterer or parts that just look ugly, but that’s it. Basically, prior knowledge is prefered, but newbies have blown my mind before so don’t get discouraged.

If you pass, please remember to communicate your status to me. If you’re busy, tell me; if you’re quitting, tell me. I seriously don’t care what pace you work at, as long as I know you’re still working. I don’t want to sound like a control freak, but, well…

Anyway, apply! Help me get back into the mood for scanlating! I swear you’ll get your chapters sooner if you keep me focused on the group for a while.

Getting Better

(All the time)

So I’m not exactly sure how, but I keep running into this lady whenever I go to work. Now, that in itself isn’t so bad, except for the fact that she knows I have some command over the Japanese language. And she won’t stop talking to me in it. On the bus. In the elevator. It’s like she doesn’t know English!
I’m also fairly sure she’s using very casual speech on me (she called me アンタ the first time we talked), which is very disconcerting to me because she’s around 50-years-old. And the speed. Lord, does she talk quickly. I barely have enough time to eke out one-word answers before she’s talking again.
The kicker? This is always in public. As in people all around, listening to us talk. And I’m probably the last person you’d expect to hear speaking Japanese.

What’s my point? I’m not sure, but I figured that would be more interesting than me bitching about the amount of stuff chapter 158 had to be lettered, or the fact that I haven’t done anything during my break except work so far.

Let me know if any of these don’t work, mediafire was being screwy with me so I’m not certain.

158 (I know it’s missing the beginning of the volume. Idk where those pages disappeared to. I’ll fix that as soon as possible.)
159
160

I contemplated holding these until the weekend for a “Christmas release”, but I won’t do that to you guys. If you celebrate Christmas, Merry (early) Christmas! If you don’t, enjoy the free holidays!

Update

December 11, 2011 by

So, I don’t exactly know how far along the latest chapter is, but it’s finals week for me so I’m not going to be hunting it down/just doing it myself until Friday at the earliest. Sorry to all of you who could have used the laughs in between all the stress. Believe me, I know how you feel.

*Edit* I’m done now. Yeesh. Now all I have to do is install Photoshop, rip the fonts from my old hard drive, and you’ll have your chapters!

Abuse of Power

I’m one volume away from finishing my read of YKTMC. Pray I’m calloused enough by cruddy manga endings that this one doesn’t affect my enthusiasm for working on the series. So I finished YKTMC. I have to say, I actually liked that ending. I can’t say that anything was really wrapped up, but I think the original spirit of the manga lasted through until the very end. I also really liked the job Shinagawa ended up with. It just really suited him, I think. I also recently finished Usagi Drop (all nine volumes were on sale at the local book store. Lucky me.) and I liked that ending, too. I suppose I’ve always been drawn to the stuff people cast off, though.
Oh, the main reason I’m writing this post: the links on the releases page are officially down, and I don’t really feel like figuring out the coding to redo that whole page. Yes, it would probably take me all of 15 minutes to do, but damn it, I’m lazy.

I hate design class.

Took Long Enough

Chapter releases:

152, 153

OH MY GOD A TYPO: 154

There, happy? Have you wiped the spittle from your mouth? Has your table been un-flipped? Good.

Now, prepare for words! Bwahahaha! Ahem. (Slightly dated blogging follows)

You may notice that someone else has written this blog post.  In a nutshell, that’s because JV, our beloved leader, has decided to pursue other ventures.  So instead, you have to deal with me.  Who exactly am I, you ask?  No one important, really. I’ve just been up-jumped to blogger because I have a lot of free time.  Expect things to pretty much stay the same around here, though we’ll try to be more expedient with the releases in the future.  One change of note, though: no more direct downloads (What JV giveth, JV taketh away).

In other news, we now offer an ARCHIVE!  I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while, since there’s a distinct lack of a complete archive of YKTMC on the net.  It took me a while to hunt this all down, and there are some manga reader rips where my Google skills failed, but at least it’s COMPLETE.  Don’t forget that Yankee-Goon has their own archive (direct downloads!) if you can’t stand Mediafire.  If any of the links go down, let me know and I’ll see about fixing that.

I’ll get around to updating the credits page/answering emails when I have time.

Yeah, Don’t Say It

A lot happens when you try to be a good student for a change. It’s been explained before, but in case you don’t check this site every single day like some people:
Your chapters are coming. This I swear, even if I have to re-letter some of them myself.  If that does prove to be the case, I will probably cry, but such is life.  So have just a little more patience, okay?

I’ll introduce myself next time.  I don’t need other people doing that for me, thank you.

HALP

July 19, 2011 by

Most of our cleaners have either left us, or are on hiatus due to real life obligations, so we’re short on help at the moment. If any of you have the spare time and know your way around Photoshop, it’d be great if you could give us a hand.

Here’s the status of the next three chapters:

152 – translated, needs to be cleaned
153 – done
154 – typesetting

Chapters 146-148

Well, shit.

If you haven’t heard the news already, Yankee-kun & Megane-chan will be ending next week with Chapter 211.

This crushes my hopes of catching up before the end. Still, I’d like to once again implore anybody with the spare time and love of this series to help both groups (ourselves and Yankee Goon) with the scanlation efforts. Other scanlation teams are welcome to collaborate as well, as long as the translation quality is preserved. Send us an email and I’m sure we can all work something out.

Finally, a plea to the weekly raw providers out there: I’d be eternally grateful if the last two chapters of Yankee-kun could be made available for download. I shall be scouring the ‘net for the next week or so, in hopes of seeing them somewhere! ;_;

REELIN’ WITH THE FEELING, DON’T STOP, CONTINUE

May 6, 2011 by

Download Chapters 140, 141 & 142 here

Just please don’t be douchewads and pester YG about the next chapter, ’cause they’ve got bigger fish to fry right now. If you want your chapters so badly, go learn how to clean manga and help out. (We’re also looking for translators and cleaners. Check out our FAQ for recruitment details.)

Good luck to those of you who are still caught up in the end-of-semester hoopla. I know your pain.

STAY FROSTY, PEOPLE.
